Inside the Auburn Tigers The portal has been vicious in the early stages for Auburn, with four receivers joining the three offensive lineman who have left The Plains . . . Jay Crawford is expected to enter the NCAA transfer portal . . . Although Scott and Golesh have shared ties to Tennessee and USF, they have not worked together previously . . . After his immense success on the offense at USF, he sought to bring that braintrust over to the Plains — with an up-and-comer on the defensive side of the ball, too. Everywhere else, Golesh prioritized SEC prowess . . . Golesh's staff came together quicker than Hugh Freeze's when he was hired in 2022. It took Freeze close to a month to complete his first Auburn staff, while Golesh finished his in exactly 17 days . . . A number of players had breakout seasons in 2025, going from unknown or low in the depth chart to key players on the team . . . With guards Jeremiah Wright and Dillon Wade out of eligibility along with tackle/center Mason Murphy, Auburn's offensive line group is going to look vastly different next season . . . Bear McWhorter, who'd previously signed with the Michigan Wolverines, was released from his National Letter of Intent in the wake of head coach Sherrone Moore's dismissal. On Monday, he announced his commitment to Auburn . . . Larry Scott, who has been the head coach at Howard University since 2020, is set to be hired as Auburn's new tight ends coach . . . "Every single guy that I've met with says, 'I love Auburn.' Not like, 'Yeah it's cool,' but I love Auburn. I've never been at a place where 100% of the guys say that . . . "Elyjah Freeman came into my office and said, listen, I think it'd be good if I came off the bench . . . Auburn now moves to 7-2 all time in State Farm Arena . . . "We knew this stretch was going to be tough, but we've got to do a better job of starting basketball games," Auburn head coach Larry Vickers said. "We've owned the first five minutes of every game, and today we did not . . . It is not a team that has often looked like a contender. He will reunite with FSU offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, who coached Martin at Auburn . . . The 21 student-athletes have combined for five All-America selections, two All-SEC honors and 26 appearances on SEC honor rolls . . . Butch Thompson's squad gets the season going hosting Youngstown State on Feb. 13-15th at Plainsman Park . . . Troy has played 27 games against the current makeup of the Southeastern Conference, but never against the school less than 90 miles to its northeast despite Auburn beginning football in 1892 and Troy almost two decades later in 1909 . . . Auburn's 2027 non-conference slate is set, with the Tigers playing Middle Tennessee State, Missouri State and Notre Dame that season. Auburn also announced Thursday that they added Austin Peay to its 2027 schedule . . . |
