Birmingham News Chizik's plan of surrounding himself with quality assistants and relentless recruiters shows that, contrary to popular belief when he was initially hired, he might have been the right man for the job after all . . . He joins defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks in leaving early for the NFL draft . . . Ted Roof has agreed to be Auburn's defensive coordinator . . . It is a philosophy that, as Malzahn moves to become offensive coordinator at Auburn beginning Wednesday, Tulsa head coach Todd Graham says everyone at the school has to believe in . . . That leaves Auburn with four assistant positions to fill, still needing a defensive coordinator and three positional coaches — defensive line, secondary and offensive line . . . Taylor, 38, spent four seasons at Tennessee earlier this decade. His on-the-field responsibilities were variable, but his recruiting prowess wasn't . . . Auburn's new head coach named Trooper Taylor his receivers coach and assistant head coach on Monday, a move that gives the Tigers five assistants, four of whom coach offense . . . Following 48 hours of speculation, the Bulldogs' assistant head coach turned down a reportedly lucrative offer from the Volunteers to join the staff of newly-hired head coach Lane Kiffin . . . Tennessee has requested and received permission from Georgia to interview Bulldogs assistant football coach Rodney Garner for a position on the Vols' staff . . . It goes where Muschamp goes, which means it has been to LSU, Auburn and small-college outposts in the South — and even to Miami for an NFL coaching stint with the Dolphins . . .
